Well, today is the day after Election Day. Some are dancing in the streets while others are drowning their sorrows. However, regardless of the current status of the Democrat-Republican saga, many are celebrating as Washington D.C. voters used election day to overwhelmingly approve the legalization of marijuana for the nation's capital. Supporters are calling it a huge Civil Rights victory, as statistics from recent years show that 88 percent of people convicted of marijuana possession in D.C. were black although surveys showed that whites and blacks are equally likely to use the drug.
The law approved yesterday allows legal possession of up to 2 ounces of marijuana and growing of up to 3 plants at home. Selling marijuana remains illegal.
