Title: Curbing the Opioid Addiction Epidemic:  The Physician’s Role

Description:  As the opioid addiction crisis grow in this country, physicians are becoming more aware of our responsibility to contribute to prevention efforts while continuing to advocate for adequate access to pain management for those patients in need.  This workshop seeks to educate physicians about those factors that place patients with pain at risk for developing opioid addiction, provide concrete steps for implementing universal addiction risk screening tools as part of the pain assessment and discuss the clinical, regulatory and reimbursement environments surrounding the use of intranasal naloxone for the prevention of opioid overdose deaths. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop:

  1. Physicians will have knowledge of those factors that place individuals with pain at risk for developing opioid addiction.
  2. Physicians will have ability to introduce addiction risk screening tools as part of assessment of patients with pain.
  3. Physicians will understand the requirements and have the ability to prescribe intranasal naloxone to individuals or the support system of those prescribed or using opioids.
